Platform Specific Images

The purpose of this section is to assist developers with the required files, sizes, and general models for a successful porting certification. These guidelines include images selected as examples, as well as images provided by the respective companies in their documents, and may be subject to changes as they are updated.

  • Dashboard Icon (Still Image)
  • Background Image
  • Splash Screen/Start-up Image (Background and Foreground)
  • Save Data Icon

  • DualSense and SIE Intellectual Properties Images

Detailed information about the settings for each of these images can be found in section “3.1 – Console Image Settings” of this guide.

Splash screen (Start-up image)

For the PlayStation 5, the system necessitates two images to implement a transient effect. These images are referred to as the background and foreground. The background can be a standard image, while the foreground may consist of the game’s logo. Both images are essential for the certification process, and their properties are as follows:

Background:

  • File Format: The file must be in png format with a 24 bit pixel format.
  • Name: The file must be named bg_layer.png.
  • Image Size: The image size must be 3840×2160 pixels
  • Non – Interlaced format
  • File Size: Must have a maximum of 32 Mib.

Foreground:

  • File Format: The file must be in png format with a 24 bit pixel format.
  • Name: The file must be named foreground.png.
  • Image Size: The image size must be 3840×2160 pixels
  • Non – Interlaced format
  • File Size: Must have a maximum of 32 Mib.

An example of the Start-up image and its effect can be seen here.

Save data icon

This is the image used as an icon when save data is displayed. It must have the following properties:

  • File Format: The file must be in png format with a 24 bit pixel format.
  • Name: The file must be named save_icon.png.
  • Image Size: The image size must be 688×388 pixels or 776×436 pixels.
  • Non – Interlaced format

File Size: Must have a maximum of 1,353,344 (= 776 x 436 x 4) bytes.

Trophy set image

This is the visual representation that players see when selecting the game from their trophy list, and also when comparing their achievements with those of their friends. Typically, this image corresponds to the static icon of the application. It can be available in various languages to facilitate system software language switching, but having a default language version is mandatory.

It must adhere to the following specifications:

  • File Format: The file must be in png format with a 24 bit or 32 bit pixel format.
  • Name: The file must be named trophy_set.png.
  • Image Size: The image size must be 512×512 pixels.
  • Non – Interlaced format
  • File Size: There are no restrictions.

Trophy icons

This image serves as the representation of a trophy and, similar to the PlayStation 4, must be a distinct image for each trophy within the game. It is advisable that each trophy icon reflects the unique attributes of the corresponding trophy, although the same image can be employed for multiple trophies. This image remains consistent across all supported languages and must adhere to the following properties:

  • File Format: The file must be in png format with a 24 bit or 32 bit pixel format.
  • Name: The file must be named trophy_<short name>.png.
  • Image Size: The image size must be 512×512 pixels.
  • Non – Interlaced format
  • File Size: There are no restrictions.

Activities

If the game contains a main story/campaign, it must have at least one activity for the play segment which composes it. This activity can represent the progression on missions, chapters, levels, quests or other things, as well as collectables. Sony requires two images for activity configuration:

Game’s Hub Cover Image:

  • File Format: The file must be in png format with a 24 bit pixel format.
  • Name: The file must be named activity<name>_cover.png.
  • Image Size: The image size must be 3840×2160 pixels.
  • Non – Interlaced format
  • File Size: There are no restrictions.

* The cover takeover image is currently deferred as of the SDK 5.0 and is optional.

Small Image Focus:

  • File Format: The file must be in png format with a 24 bit pixel format.
  • Name: The file must be named activity<name>_small.png.
  • Image Size: The image size must be 864×1040 pixels.
  • Non – Interlaced format
  • File Size: There are no restrictions.

DualSense and SIE intellectual Properties Images

Similar to the guidelines for the PlayStation 4, if your game incorporates images of Sony’s DualSense controller or any products belonging to Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), these images must adhere to SIE’s trademark guidelines as provided by the company. The images of their products cannot be altered unless expressly permitted by the company.

In general, it is advised not to make any alterations to the product image. This includes avoiding changes to its shape, cropping, adjusting the position of hardware components, modifying color schemes, applying effects, displaying damaged product images, making cuts to trademarked symbols (including attempts to hide them), overlapping trademarks with callout lines, adding embellishments to the product image, extracting parts of the image, or reducing image visibility by placing it on a complex background. It’s important to maintain the integrity of the original product image according to the specified guidelines.

The same exceptions that applied to the PlayStation 4 guidelines are applicable here.

Controller Image Rules

When incorporating images and icons related to Sony controllers in our projects, it is crucial to follow a series of established procedures and guidelines. These guidelines can be found directly in the Corporate Brand Guidelines.

When using the controller image, it is essential to utilize the art provided by Sony without engaging in any form of brand deconstruction, as this factor will negatively impact our certification.
