This breaks down the requirements for creating image assets and trailers to be used on various console platforms when publishing a game on their respective marketplaces. The image specifications will need to be met exactly for each platform, and should all be considered when creating the assets.

 

PlayStation 4/5

  • Master Image (with logo) – 2160 x 2160 JPG/PNG. Max file size is 30MB
  • Logo – 2880 x 592 PNG (with transparency). Max file size is 30MB
  • 16:9 Master Image – 3840 x 2160 JPG. Max file size is 30MB
  • 4:3 Master Image – 2880 x 2160 JPG/PNG. Max file size is 30MB
  • Portrait Master Image – 1440 x 2160 JPG/PNG. Max file size is 30MB
  • Hero Character – 2160 x 2160 PNG (with transparency). Max file size is 30MB
  • Hero Background Layer – 3840 x 2160 JPG/PNG. Max file size is 30MB
  • Edition Key Art (optional) – 3840 x 2160 JPG. Max file size is 30MB
  • Features PSD (Hero Art) – 3840 x 2160 PSD. Max file size is 1GB
  • PDP Background Image (PS4 Only) 3840 x 2160 JPG/PNG. Max file size is 30MB
  • Cover Art (NO LOGO) – 3840 x 2160 JPG/PNG. Max file size is 30MB
  • Screenshots – 3840 x 2160 JPG. Max file size is 30MB
  • Video – 3840 x 2160 MP4/MOV. Max file size is 50MB
  • Video Poster Image – 3840 x 2160 JPG/PNG. Max file size is 30MB
  • Highlight BG – 3840 x 2160 JPG/PNG. Max file size is 30MB
  • Highlight Video – 3840 x 2160 MP4/MOV. Max file size is 50MB
  • Highlight Video Poster Image – 3840 x 2160 JPG/PNG. Max file size is 30MB

  • Branded Key Art (With Green Banner) – 584 x 800 PNG. Max file size is 50MB
  • Titled Super Hero Art – 1920 x 1080 PNG. Max file size is 50MB
  • Featured Promotional Art (No Logo) – 1080 x 1080 PNG. Max file size is 50MB
  • Screenshots (3-10 shots) – 1920 x 1080 PNG. Max file size is 50MB
  • Trailer – 1920 x 1080 MP4/MOV. Max file size is 2GB
  • Trailer Thumbnail – 3840 x 2160 PNG. Max file size is 50MB

Nintendo Switch

Note: Nintendo’s eShop does not support progressive JPGs at all.

  • eShop Banner (Hero Banner) – 1920 x 1080 JPG. Max file size is 4000KB
  • Screenshots (6 max) – 1280 x 720 JPG. Max file size is 500KB
  • American Box Art – 300 x 486 JPG. Max file size is 500KB

Steam

  • Header Capsule – 460 x 215 JPG/PNG.
    • This image is used at the top of the store page, the recommendations, the grid view for the user’s library, and daily deals.
  • Small Capsule – 231 x 87 JPG/PNG. The game’s logo should be readable in this, so it will probably fill most of the frame.
    • Used when the game appears on lists in Steam (Search results, top sellers etc)
  • Main Capsule – 616 x 353 JPG/PNG
    • This appears at the top of the front page for the user’s queue
  • Vertical Capsule – 374 x 448 JPG/PNG
    • These can appear at the top of the front page during certain sales
  • Page Background – 1438 x 810 JPG. Try not to use anything too high contrast or anything that has a lot of text.
    • This is the background of the game’s store page
  • Screenshots (5 minimum) – 1920 x 1080 JPG/PNG
  • Library Capsule – 600 x 900 JPG/PNG. Avoid using any text other than the game’s logo.
    • This is the image that is used in the library overview and collection view
  • Library Hero – 3840 x 1240 JPG/PNG.
    • This appears at the top of the page when a user is looking at the game in their collection.
  • Library Logo – 1280 x 720 PNG with transparent BG.
    • This gets placed on top of the Library Hero
  • Community Icon – 32 x 32 JPG
    • This appears in the top corner of the game’s community pages
  • Community Header – 444 x 208 JPG
  • Trailer – 1920 x 1080 MP4

Naming Conventions

All assets created for console platforms should follow this naming convention: [GameTitle]_[Platform]_[AssetName]_[Dimensions]. So as an example, The Meating’s Master Image on PS4 would be: “Meating_PS4_MasterImage_2160x2160.jpg”. Please note the use of underscores in the name. Do not use spaces ever.
